Fish Pie

Ingredients
For the Pie:
- Fish pieces (boiled with salt and bones removed) – 1/2 kg
- Oil – 1.5 tablespoons
- Onion, finely chopped – 1 large
- Green chillies, chopped – 2
- Ginger – 1/2 inch, ground to paste
- Potato, boiled and mashed – 1
- Tomato, finely sliced – 1
For the Sauce:
- Eggs – 2
- Milk – 1/2 cup
- Water – 3/4 cup
- Butter – 50 gm
- Flour – 2 tablespoons
- Pepper powder – 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt – to taste
Method of Preparation
Step 1: Preparing the Base
- Heat the oil in a pan and fry the onions and green chillies until they turn light brown.
- Add ginger paste and stir for 2 minutes.
- Mix in the fish, mashed potatoes, and sufficient salt. Set aside.
Step 2: Preparing the Sauce
- Melt butter in a frying pan, sprinkle flour, and stir gently.
- Gradually pour in the milk and water while stirring continuously to prevent lumps.
- Beat the egg yolks with a little water, then add them along with salt and pepper powder to the sauce.
- Combine this sauce with the fish-potato mixture and add the sliced tomatoes.
- Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold them lightly into the mixture.
Step 3: Baking the Pie
- Preheat the oven to the required temperature.
- Grease a pie dish and pour in the mixture.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden and set.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
